About
Mark Limacher is a Canadian-born composer, autodidact, and subject-void punctuating the topology of material reality. When not attempting to foment resistance toward the reactionary turn of contemporary North American music, he can be found struggling against the dominant ‘post-political’ ideology of the Anglo-Saxon world, saturating himself in anti-postmodern Continental thought, and ironing his socks.
He completed studies at The New School in New York City- an experience he has been known to refer to as “thoroughly hystericizing”- where he studied composition, counterpoint, and conducting with (among others) Ernesto Klar, Kirk Nurock, Armen Donelian, Gerry Hemingway, Rudy Palmer, Chris Stone and Bob Kosovsky. Recent premieres of his work include A Waning Industry (2009, NYC), a work for piano, tape, and video projection, and Nichtkonzert (2010, NYC), a theater piece for 1 instrumentalist, 3 speakers/singers, and tape.
Other anecdotal information includes having turned pages for performances of Morton Feldman’s For Bunita Marcus and Triadic Memories, having played Hello Dolly! for Marvin Hamlisch at one of his concerts, and having essays read on-air by Mike Malloy of The Mike Malloy Show.
He currently resides in Siem Reap, Cambodia, where he works as a volunteer music teacher.
